Making vlaamse hutsepot

It’s winter so it’s hutsepot time.

What you need

  • A pork shoulder of about 1kg
  • 1 kg minced meat
  • 1/2 kg carrots
  • 1/2 kg brussel sprouts
  • 1 savoi cabbage
  • 1/2 kg turnips
  • 2 white of leeks
  • 3 stalks of celery
  • 2 onions
  • 2 liters of water

First you chop up all the vegies in big chunks, since this is going to cook for at least 2 hours. Then you add 1 liter of water in a big pot withe the pork meat. Add all the veggies but wait with the cabbage untill last.  Add salt (a teaspoon to begin with). Let it simmer for one and a half hours.  Take out the meat and shred. Return the meat to the pot. Make nice biggish balls out of the minced meat and add to the pot. Cook for another half an hour. This serves a small army.
